SUNDAY SERVICES

Sunday Services begin at 10:30 a.m.  When you enter the Church you will be welcomed by a greeter and invited to sign the guest book.  This will allow us to send you our newsletter for a few months to help you get acquainted with our congregation.  Of course, if you become a member or a regular visitor your name will permanently added to our mailing list.  Our services, which last about an hour, contain music, announcements, the singing of hymns, readings, and a sermon.  At the conclusion of the service, we invite all visitors and members to join us for coffee and conversation.

CHILDREN'S PARTICIPATION

Children join the adults in the sanctuary for the first of the service, they then go to their classes with their teachers.  Parents are welcome to accompany their children at this time, especially when visiting for the first time.  Child care for babies through three-year olds is available during the entire service.

DRESS

Wear what seems comfortable for you. Most members dress casually but nicely, others get dressed up.

MARRIAGE AND COMMITMENTS CEREMONIES

Our building is available for weddings and commitment ceremonies. We will perform wedding ceremonies for members (at no charge) and non-members (for a fee).  One of several of our guest ministers may perform the ceremony. They meet with each couple and they work with them to design a ceremony which expresses the commitment which they are making to their relationship.  Ours is one of a few churches in Terre Haute in which the ministers are free to perform such ceremonies as same-sex couples.  Please contact the office for more information or to schedule a marriage commitment ceremony.

BECOMING A MEMBER

Please call the office (812-234-4488) if you are interested in joining our church.  We will then arrange for you to meet, often over lunch, with a couple of our board members who will inform you about the history, diverse beliefs, practices and organization of our church, as well of the responsibilities of membership. We also suggest you visit the Unitarian Universalist Association Website for detailed information about what Unitarian Universalism is all about.

Welcoming Congregation

Some of our members have recently gone through extensive education to help us become a "Welcoming Congregation" that is sensitive to the diverse needs of our members and friends, especially those who are bisexual, lesbian, gay, or transgendered.

“In 1988, the UUA Board of Trustees formed the Common Vision Planning Committee to create a program for congregations interested in becoming more inclusive…Commitments to inclusiveness and Actions for achieving those Commitments were adopted by the delegates of the 1989 General Assembly as the outline for the Welcoming Congregation Program.”
